DIGIREF
– Referencing made easy
Nov. 2020 - Digital Product Focus (University partner project)
For this project I worked with a partner to develop an app focusing on how it can automate a task. The project consists of research, concept development and final design piece.
The main focus will be on usability and the main selling point for the design. Looking at our own experience at university and what we thought can be automated to perform faster and potentially more accurate.
We found that the process of creating references is very long and tedious especially when you are unsure of how to reference the item. We explored how to create an app to solve this problem.
Deciding to create a digital referencing app which is able to create references ready to be pasted into essays, it would work by scanning the ISBN number.
My contribution to this project was in the development of the final logo design, app icons and app prototype.
Digitising Sketches
Digitising ideas from sketches, I was particularly interested in recreating a sketch I did of the app name in a style of a barcode. I looked at different variations, exploring the different variations of creating letters in this style. Another sketch I digitised, looking at how lines can be used to have a letter hidden within.
Further Development
The final set of fonts and colours to be used in the design of the app, these fonts and colours will be used through out the app design.
Screen Design
After my research into apps and ease of use, I noticed that from personal experience the selection process where the design is clear from clutter and is organised into set blocks for the purpose of quick selection are easier to navigate. I included simple line illustration using illustrator using the similar tone colours originally created.
Logo Design
Sticking to main idea of scanning ISBN barcodes and creating a logo with a barcode design.
Final Design Video
